Alec Papadakis’ bold vision of offering the modern athlete a single, spacious, cutting-edge facility for world-class soccer and sports performance training has become a reality.
In late October 2004 Mr. Papadakis, founder, president and CEO of Atlanta-based SuperKick International, Inc., witnessed the grand opening of his first SuperKick soccer and sports performance franchise in Norcross, Ga., a vibrant and fast-growing city north of Atlanta. Recently, he has inked separate agreements with franchisees in Columbus and Cleveland Ohio. The columbus facility will open in early 2007 with a 20,000 sq ft SuperKick and a 45,000 sq ft Team Zone Team Training Center.
Papadakis is involved in ongoing discussions with several more prospective franchisees in New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia, Texas, as well as in other parts of Ohio.
SuperKick is a 22,000 square-foot complex featuring the world’s most advanced technology, including Field Turf playing surfaces, Woodway Desmo Pro Treadmills, Paramount strength training systems, York free weights, Vertimax, a 50-yard Mondo-surfaced sprinting track, as well as a state-of-the-art Dartfish video system to assist trainers and coaches in their evaluation and testing of SuperKick athletes. This innovative, one-of-a-kind facility also has a large multi-purpose room designed to host a variety of classes, clinics, seminars and video analysis sessions.
“Whereas today’s typical sports performance facility offers athletes general conditioning and fitness training programs, SuperKick goes one step further, offering sports performance conditioning as well as skill and technique training geared specifically to meet the needs of the soccer athlete,”
says Mr. Papadakis, who played professional soccer for seven years in the N.A.S.L. for the Atlanta Chiefs and Boston Minutemen, and who presently serves on the U.S. Federation Grievance Committee and the Executive Committee of the SuperY Leagues.
SuperKick offers separate, distinct tracks for both field players and goalkeepers, including programs emphasizing a combination of speed and conditioning and position specific soccer skill and technique training.
Soccer-specific performance and conditioning programs are geared to helping athletes improve their soccer speed and agility; strength and power; coordination and flexibility; multi-directional movements for quick, explosive starts; fitness and conditioning; and rehabilitation and injury prevention. Specific soccer skill and technique training programs for field players will emphasize dribbling, passing, shooting, receiving, heading and tackling, while goalkeepers will focus on body shape and posture, foot skills, cutting angles, diving, speed off the line, shot stopping, defending breakaways, throwing and kicking accurately, positioning, high balls and crosses.
General sports performance programs are also offered to athletes of virtually any sport who want to increase their speed and quickness; improve their multi-directional movements for quick, explosive starts; increase their agility and mobility, their strength and power, balance and body awareness, or fitness and conditioning. These programs are ideal for athletes looking to improve a sport-specific skills such as, throwing, shooting, vertical jumping, kicking, catching, or hitting.
SuperKids sports & fitness for preschoolers offers a portfolio of 60 minute fun filled youth oriented programs geared to meeting the developmental and social needs of children between the ages of 2 through 6.
“We offer something for everyone and are careful to assign athletes to sport-specific programs that
are appropriate for their age and skill level,” says Papadakis. “It really doesn’t matter if you’re a sprinter looking to shave crucial seconds off your
40-yard dash, a basketball player wanting to improve your vertical leap, or a football player looking to enhance your quickness and agility, we have a program for you.”
All SuperKick programs are written and developed by world-renowned professional and national coaches, including Peter Mellor, former National Goalkeeper Staff Coach and a coordinator for the U.S. National Soccer Teams; Pierre Barrieu, Current MLS head coach and former U.S. Men’s National Soccer Teams and U.S. Olympic Soccer Team Strength and Conditioning Coach; and John Ellinger, former coach for the U.S Mens U-17 National Team.
A special Curriculum Advisory Board (CAB) oversees and recommends all SuperKick Soccer and Sports Performance Program curriculum. The CAB is comprised of a cross-section of experienced and highly motivated and qualified individuals, ranging from directors of major youth clubs, college and professional soccer coaches, and leading experts from various high-profile, top-flight international sports organizations. The CAB ensures every SuperKick program meets rigorous quality standards and the curriculum is appropriate for all ages and skill levels.
“We are always looking for the right franchisees to help us expand our unique concept to all athletes across the country. Ideal SuperKick franchisees generally fit one of three profiles,” says Mr. Papadakis, "They are the highly motivated, sports-minded entrepreneurs, the soccer youth club whose board members are entertaining the idea of adding to their training programs, or the professional soccer club looking for additional ties to their community."
